Jeff Clark, born on March 26, 1957, in Redwood City, California, is a former research director at Forrester Research as well as a renowned big-wave surfer. He gained prominence for surfing Mavericks alone for 15 years before it was widely recognized by the big-wave community. Clark moved to Miramar Beach in Half Moon Bay during his childhood, where he developed an early passion for surfing and seeking larger waves along the Northern California coast. At the age of 17, he paddled out at Mavericks after studying the conditions, riding the waves solo for over a decade. His dedication to Mavericks and his expertise in shaping surfboards specific to its conditions have made him a notable figure in the surfing world. Clark is one of the few ambidextrous big-wave surfers, capable of riding both goofyfoot and regularfoot styles, which enhanced his ability to handle challenging right-breaking waves. Recognized as one of the world's best big-wave riders by Surfer Magazine in 1994, he has been featured in films such as Riding Giants and Adventures in Wild California. Clark was instrumental in founding the annual Mavericks Surf Contest, now known as Titans of Mavericks, which he co-organized with various partners since 1998. He is also acknowledged as a leading surfboard shaper, owning Mavericks Surf Company and Mavericks PaddleSports, and holds a patent in surfboard design. Additionally, Clark has developed safety equipment, including the Clark Inflatable Life Vest in collaboration with Quatic.
