Drew Weissman: podcast appearances and interviews

Drew Weissman is an American physician and immunologist renowned for his contributions to RNA biology. He holds the position of Roberts Family Professor in Vaccine Research at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where he is also the director of the Penn Institute for RNA Innovation and a professor of medicine. Weissman is particularly known for his work that underpins the development of mRNA vaccines, including those produced by BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna for COVID-19. His research involved discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications which played a crucial role in enabling the creation of effective mRNA vaccines. In recognition of his pioneering work, Weissman received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023, shared with biochemist Katalin Karikó. His career has been distinguished by numerous awards, including the Lasker–DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award. In 2022, Weissman was elected to the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
