Dorothee Pesch, known professionally as Doro Pesch or simply Doro, is a German heavy metal singer and the former frontwoman of the band Warlock. She is recognized for her contributions to music and culture, establishing herself as a prominent figure in metal for over four decades. Pesch began her career in garage bands within the Düsseldorf underground scene and gained media visibility and some commercial success with Warlock during the 1980s. As Warlock sought to expand into the US market, lineup changes ensued, leaving Pesch as the sole original member. She launched a solo career under the name Doro to navigate legal issues involving her record label PolyGram and her former manager. She released two albums in the United States with producers Joey Balin and Gene Simmons, though these did not achieve the breakthrough she anticipated. Throughout the 1990s, as grunge and alternative rock rose to prominence, her record label confined her productions primarily to Europe, where she continued to tour extensively and maintained her success in Germany. When classic heavy metal regained popularity, she resumed global touring and her stature as a veteran singer grew, inspiring many new female metal artists. Doro is also known for her collaborations with other musicians, including live and studio duets. Notably, she was the first heavy metal artist to perform a drive-in concert during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her discography includes 19 studio albums, with her latest titled Conqueress – Forever Strong and Proud released in October 2023. She remains active in recording and touring worldwide.
