Diane Lane, born January 22, 1965, is an American actress with a career spanning stage and film since she began acting professionally at age six. Her on-screen debut was in the 1979 film A Little Romance directed by George Roy Hill. She appeared in films such as Streets of Fire and The Cotton Club in 1984 and returned to acting in the late 1980s with roles in movies and the miniseries Lonesome Dove, which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. Lane gained further recognition for her role in A Walk on the Moon, which garnered her an Independent Spirit Award nomination. Throughout the 2000s, she appeared in diverse projects including My Dog Skip, The Perfect Storm, The Glass House, and Hardball. Her performance in Unfaithful in 2002 was critically acclaimed and earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She also featured in Under the Tuscan Sun and several romantic and thriller films during this period. Lane collaborated with director Francis Ford Coppola on four films and appeared in his wife's film, Paris Can Wait. She portrayed Martha Kent in the DC Extended Universe starting with Man of Steel in 2013. Her recent work includes leading roles in Let Him Go, a box office hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ryan Murphy series Feud, and the anthology series Extrapolations. She also contributed to animated films including Inside Out and its sequel, and appeared in Netflix series such as A Man in Full and the dystopian film Anniversary.
