Diane Kruger is a German actress who was born in Algermissen, West Germany. Originally trained as a ballet dancer, she attended the Royal Academy in Hanover and the Royal Ballet School in London. Following her early career as a model, she gained recognition after winning the 1992 Elite Model Look national contest and working with Elite Model Management in Paris and New York. Transitioning from modeling to acting in the late 1990s, Kruger established herself in film with notable roles including Helen in Troy, Dr. Abigail Chase in National Treasure and its sequel, Bridget von Hammersmark in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, and Gina in the film Unknown. She also starred as Detective Sonya Cross in the FX series The Bridge. In her film career, she received the Trophée Chopard from the Cannes Film Festival early on. Her performance in Fatih Akin's In the Fade marked her German-language debut and earned her the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress in 2017.
