Deion Luwynn Sanders Sr. is an American football coach and former player who is currently the head football coach at the University of Colorado Boulder. He played in the National Football League for 14 seasons with multiple teams including the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Ravens. Sanders was also a Major League Baseball outfielder for nine seasons, during which he played for the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants. He is notable for winning two Super Bowl titles and making a single World Series appearance in 1992, making him the only athlete to participate in both a Super Bowl and a World Series. As a college athlete, Sanders played for the Florida State Seminoles and received the Jim Thorpe Award in 1988. He was selected fifth overall in the 1989 NFL draft by the Falcons. Primarily functioning as a cornerback, he earned eight Pro Bowl selections and six first-team All-Pro honors. Sanders made consecutive Super Bowl appearances with the 49ers and Cowboys, winning both. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011. After retiring from professional sports, Sanders embarked on a career in sports analysis and coaching. He served as the head coach at Jackson State University from 2020 to 2022, where he led the team to two Celebration Bowl appearances and the first undefeated regular season in school history. In 2023, he was named the head football coach at the University of Colorado Boulder.
