Daniel Edward Aykroyd is a Canadian and American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer born on July 1, 1952. He was an original cast member of the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from its inception in 1975 until 1979. During his tenure on SNL, he appeared in recurring sketches including the Coneheads and the Blues Brothers. His work on the show earned him five Primetime Emmy Award nominations, winning for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series in 1977. Aykroyd's most notable roles include Elwood J. Blues in The Blues Brothers and its sequel Blues Brothers 2000, and Dr. Raymond Stantz in the Ghostbusters films. He reprised his roles in various projects related to the Ghostbusters franchise. Beyond comedy, he received recognition for dramatic performances, notably an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Driving Miss Daisy.
