Cornelius Crane Chase, known as Chevy Chase, is an American comedian, actor, and writer born on October 8, 1943. He gained prominence as a cast member of the television show Saturday Night Live during its first season from 1975 to 1976. On the show, his recurring Weekend Update segment became a well-known feature, and he earned two Primetime Emmy Awards from four nominations for his work both as a performer and a writer. After leaving Saturday Night Live early in the show's second season, Chase established himself as a leading man in comedy films during the 1980s. He received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in the romantic comedy Foul Play in 1978. Chase is perhaps best known for his roles in several popular 1980s films, including playing Ty Webb in Caddyshack, Clark Griswold in five National Lampoon's Vacation movies, and Irwin Fletch Fletcher in Fletch and Fletch Lives. His filmography also includes Seems Like Old Times, Spies Like Us, ¡Three Amigos!, and Funny Farm. Additionally, Chase hosted the Academy Awards twice, in 1987 and 1988. Following a series of less successful projects in the 1990s, his career experienced a decline. However, he saw a resurgence in popularity with his portrayal of Pierce Hawthorne on the NBC sitcom Community from 2009 to 2014.
