Briana Scurry: podcast appearances and interviews

Briana Collette Scurry, born on September 7, 1971, is an American retired soccer goalkeeper. She was the starting goalkeeper for the United States women's national soccer team in multiple major tournaments including the 1995 and 2003 World Cups, the 1996 and 2004 Summer Olympics, and the 2007 Women's World Cup. Her participation in these events contributed to her team's success, securing third place in 1995, 2007, and 2003, and winning gold medals in 1996 and 2004. Scurry was also a founding member of the Women's United Soccer Association and played three seasons as the starting goalkeeper for the Atlanta Beat between 2001 and 2003. Over her international career, she made 173 appearances for the national team, ranking as the second most among female soccer goalkeepers and placing her fifteenth among all American female players and thirty-second among all women. In recognition of her contributions to soccer, she was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on August 3, 2017, becoming the first woman goalkeeper and the first Black woman to receive this honor. Scurry is openly gay and married Chryssa Zizos in 2018. In 2022, she published a memoir titled My Greatest Save, which became a bestseller, and was also featured in a CBS documentary titled The Only that same year.
