Brian Scott Gorman, born on June 11, 1959, is an American professional who served as a Major League Baseball umpire before transitioning to his current role as Chief Operating Officer at TransformingLives.Coach. Gorman's career in Major League Baseball began in 1991 with the National League and continued until 2021, including work in both leagues from 2000 onwards. He was promoted to crew chief in 2010 and wore uniform number 9 throughout his tenure. Gorman umpired in three World Series and participated in two All-Star Games, along with numerous other postseason games including World Series, League Championship Series, and Division Series. Notable moments in his umpiring career include being the home plate umpire during the 2012 American League Division Series when Raúl Ibañez hit a decisive home run, as well as officiating Shawn Green’s four-homer game in 2002. Gorman also earned recognition for his role in international baseball, notably during the 2013 World Baseball Classic when he issued eight ejections following a benches-clearing brawl, a record in the context of national-team baseball. Born in Whitestone, Queens, and raised in Closter, New Jersey, he attended the University of Delaware before beginning his umpiring career in the minor leagues in 1982, progressing through various levels before reaching the majors.
