Bernie Clark, known formally as James Bernard Clark, was born on September 25, 1910, in Dunedin, New Zealand, and passed away on January 21, 2003, in Auckland. He was an accountant by profession. Clark's early life included education at Otago Boys' High School, and he came from a family with a cricketing background; his father, James Clark Baker, played 41 first-class matches for Otago between the 1889–90 and 1906–07 seasons. Clark was recognized as a talented wicket-keeper, playing club cricket for the Old Boys team and making his First Grade debut during the 1932–33 season. During his cricketing career, he was described as being among the best wicket-keepers in Dunedin, noted for his sound technique and significant promise. Clark made three first-class appearances for Otago between the 1933–34 and 1934–35 seasons, debuting against Wellington in the final Plunket Shield match of 1933–34. In his short first-class career, he scored a total of 63 runs, with his highest score being 25 runs in the first innings of his debut match, and took five catches as a wicket-keeper. Following his sporting pursuits, Clark continued his professional career as an accountant. His contributions to cricket were acknowledged in obituaries published in the New Zealand Cricket Almanack and by Wisden, highlighting his significance in New Zealand cricket history.
