Armando Iannucci: podcast appearances and interviews

Armando Giovanni Iannucci is a Scottish satirist, writer, director, producer, and performer born in Glasgow to Italian parents. He studied at the University of Glasgow and the University of Oxford. Iannucci began his career working with BBC Scotland and BBC Radio 4, and his early collaborations with Chris Morris on the radio series On the Hour transitioned to television as The Day Today. A character from this series, Alan Partridge, co-created by Iannucci, subsequently appeared in multiple television and radio programmes including Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge and I'm Alan Partridge. He also fronted satirical Armistice review shows and created The Armando Iannucci Shows for Channel 4 in 2001. Returning to the BBC in 2005, Iannucci developed the political sitcom The Thick of It and the spoof documentary Time Trumpet in 2006. His 2009 film In the Loop, which featured characters from The Thick of It, garnered critical acclaim. Recognized for his sharp political satire, The Daily Telegraph referred to him as the hardman of political satire. Iannucci's other works include the operetta libretto Skin Deep and the radio series Charm Offensive. He also created and served as showrunner for the HBO series Veep from 2012 to 2015, winning two Emmy Awards in 2015 for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. His subsequent films include The Death of Stalin in 2017 and The Personal History of David Copperfield in 2019. In 2020, he created the HBO comedy series Avenue 5.
