Anthony Dwane Mackie is an American actor known for his portrayal of Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He debuted in the role with Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014 and later starred as the character in Captain America: Brave New World in 2025. Mackie began his film career with his debut in 8 Mile in 2002. He received critical acclaim for roles in films such as Brother to Brother, which earned him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Actor, and The Hurt Locker, which garnered nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the AAFCA Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards. Additionally, he portrayed Tupac Shakur in Notorious (2009) and Martin Luther King Jr. in the HBO film All the Way (2016). On television, Mackie starred as Takeshi Kovacs in the second season of Netflix's Altered Carbon in 2020, played a delivery driver in the Peacock series Twisted Metal from 2023 onward, and appeared as a fictionalized version of himself in the Apple TV+ series The Studio in 2025, which earned him his first Primetime Emmy Award nomination. Outside of film and television, he has performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway, including roles in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, A Soldier's Play, and Carl Hancock Rux's Talk, for which he received an Obie Award in 2002.
