Samuel Leroy Jackson, born on December 21, 1948, is an American actor and film producer recognized as one of the most widely known actors of his generation. Jackson made his professional theater debut in 1980 at The Public Theater in New York City in the play Mother Courage and Her Children. Between 1981 and 1983, he originated the role of Private Louis Henderson in Charles Fuller's A Soldier's Play off-Broadway and later played Boy Willie in August Wilson's The Piano Lesson at Yale Repertory Theatre in 1987. In 2011, he portrayed Martin Luther King Jr. on Broadway in The Mountaintop and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for the 2022 revival of The Piano Lesson. Jackson's early film roles include Coming to America, Juice, True Romance, Jurassic Park, Menace II Society, and Fresh.
