Andrew Clement Serkis is an English actor and director known for his pioneering work in motion capture acting, animation, and voice work for computer-generated characters. His notable roles include Gollum in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, King Kong in the 2005 film, Caesar in the Planet of the Apes reboot series, and Captain Haddock in Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin. Serkis has also portrayed Supreme Leader Snoke in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Baloo in his self-directed film Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, Ulysses Klaue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther, and Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman. Additionally, he played Kino Loy in the Disney+ series Andor and has appeared in the series What If...? Serkis's work in motion capture has earned critical acclaim and a variety of awards including a BAFTA Award, an Emmy Award, an Empire Award, two Actor Awards, and two Saturn Awards. He was nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Ian Brady in the television film Longford and received another BAFTA nomination for his role as Ian Dury in the biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. In 2020, Serkis was honored with the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema, and in 2021, he won a Daytime Emmy Award for the series The Letter for the King. Beyond acting, he established The Imaginarium, a production company and motion capture workshop in London, which he used for Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, and he has directed films including Breathe and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
