Andrew James Little, born on 7 May 1965, is a New Zealand politician serving as the mayor of Wellington since 17 October 2025. He has a background in law and has also worked as a trade union official. Little was previously the Leader of the Labour Party and served as Leader of the Opposition from 2014 to 2017. His political career includes being elected as a Labour Party list Member of Parliament in 2011, after serving as President of the Labour Party from 2009 to 2011. Prior to his parliamentary career, he spent 11 years as the national secretary of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union, New Zealand's largest private-sector union. During his time as Labour leader, Little faced challenges with low opinion poll ratings and resigned less than two months before the 2017 general election. His resignation was described as selfless and was credited with helping Labour's subsequent success under Jacinda Ardern. Following his resignation as leader, Little served as a senior minister for six years, holding multiple portfolios including Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations, Minister of Justice, Minister of Health, and Minister of Defence. After Labour's electoral defeat in 2023, he did not return to Parliament as a list MP and resumed his legal career. In 2025, he entered local politics again, winning the mayoral election in Wellington.
