Andre Kirk Agassi, born on April 29, 1970, is an American former professional tennis player. During his career, he was ranked as the world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals for 101 weeks, including as the year-end No. 1 in 1999. Agassi won 60 ATP Tour-level singles titles, which include eight majors, an Olympic gold medal, the 1990 ATP Tour World Championships, and 17 Masters titles. He contributed to the United States Davis Cup team’s wins in 1990, 1992, and 1995. Agassi is notable for being one of nine men to complete the career Grand Slam in singles and one of three men to complete the career Golden Slam in singles. A teenage phenom, he contested multiple major finals before claiming his first at the 1992 Wimbledon Championships. After experiencing a ranking drop due to surgery, Agassi recovered and achieved victories at the 1994 US Open and the 1995 Australian Open, which helped him reach the world No. 1 ranking for the first time. Despite personal challenges in the late 1990s, including a decline to No. 141 in 1997, he returned to the top of the sport, completing the career Golden Slam at the French Open in 1999. He continued competing into the 2000s, winning additional titles including a US Open and three Australian Open titles, before retiring after the 2006 US Open. Agassi is regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, known for his versatile surface victories and his exceptional return of serve. Outside tennis, he founded the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation, which has raised over $60 million for at-risk children, and established the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy in Las Vegas.
