Roger Federer is a Swiss former professional tennis player born on August 8, 1981. He was ranked as the world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals for a total of 310 weeks, including 237 consecutive weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. During his career, Federer won 103 singles titles on the ATP Tour, including 20 major men's singles titles. His record includes eight Wimbledon titles, which is the most in men's singles history, and five US Open titles, a joint record in the Open Era. Federer also secured 28 Masters titles and six year-end championships. A prominent figure alongside Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, known as the Big Three, Federer was a Wimbledon junior champion in 1998 and former ball boy. He won his first major singles title at Wimbledon in 2003 at age 21 and was dominant in men's tennis from 2004 to 2009, playing in 20 out of 24 major finals during that period. Federer completed the career Grand Slam at the 2009 French Open. He helped lead the Switzerland Davis Cup team to their first title in 2014 along with Stan Wawrinka and earned a silver medal in singles at the 2012 London Olympics. After recovering from knee surgery in 2016, he continued to achieve success, winning three more majors, including his record eighth Wimbledon title in 2017. Federer retired from professional tennis in September 2022. Known for his versatile and graceful playing style, he became popular worldwide and received numerous accolades, including a record 13 Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Awards and 19 consecutive ATP Fans’ Favourite awards. He is also recognized for his philanthropic efforts through the Roger Federer Foundation and his involvement in establishing the Laver Cup.
