Alexandra Blaire Krieger, born on July 28, 1984, is an American former professional soccer player known for her contributions as a right back and center back. She made over 100 appearances for the United States national team between 2008 and 2021, participating in three FIFA Women's World Cups. Krieger is a two-time World Cup champion and was a key defender in the team's success in 2015 when they secured the title in Canada by holding opponents scoreless for a record 540 minutes. She also played in the 2011 World Cup in Germany, reaching the final, and in the 2019 World Cup in France. Krieger's international career is marked by dedication and resilience, overcoming a serious knee injury at the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament that prevented her from competing in the 2012 Olympics. She was part of the 2016 Olympic team, becoming the oldest first-time Olympian for United States women's soccer. At the collegiate level, she played for the Penn State Nittany Lions, earning first-team All-American honors both as a midfielder and a defender. Her professional club career included stints in Germany with 1. FFC Frankfurt, where she helped win a league title, national cup, and UEFA Women's Cup in her first season. She later joined the National Women's Soccer League, playing for the Washington Spirit, Orlando Pride, and NJ/NY Gotham FC. She captained Gotham FC to an NWSL Championship in 2023 and was named to the NWSL Best XI four times. Currently, she is affiliated with ESPN and is recognized as a women’s soccer icon.
