  Episode 386: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2026: Rosemary's Baby (1968)

  Oct 3, 20262h 35m

On this week's episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake's Spooktoberfest 2026 we head to a place far worse than Hell, at least for Dan Ryan. Your two little podcasting devils are headed to The Big Apple and moving into The Bramford in 1968's Rosemary's Baby. Midwestern charm incarnate; Rosemary Woodhouse seemingly has it all. A handsome (if not bordering on douchebag ) actor of a husband, a lavish/stylish metropolitan apartment, and the inklings of a child, near and dear, on the way. However, not all is highballs and domestic bliss in this neck of NYC. For one, the nosiest of neighbors with the Castevets, really bend Rosemary's charm to the breaking point. Plus, unexplained phenomena, weird chanting, and some really striking nightmares plague this poor housewife wherever she goes. When the baby is finally on the way, this seems to be anything but the blissful life a mother craves. Instead, there is something, sharp, sinister, and smelling of Tannis Root that plagues this demented cityscape. All of them witches and a few of them weebs... Spooktoberfest continues with the 1988 cult classic Pumpkinhead, a terrifying tale of vengeance written and directed by special-effects legend Stan Winston. Ed Harley’s peaceful life is shattered when his son is mortally injured by a group of teenage campers. Ed seeks the help of an old witch, but bringing the dead back to life is beyond her power. Instead, consumed by grief and rage, he has her summon an ancient evil known to the locals only as “Pumpkinhead.” Once conjured, Pumpkinhead cannot be stopped until his chosen victims are dead, and anyone who gets in his way meets the same gruesome end. While Pumpkinhead carries out the revenge Ed craved, Ed finds himself tormented by visions of the beast’s murders. Horrified by what he has unleashed, Ed resolves to save the remaining campers and end the nightmare he created. But can Pumpkinhead truly be defeated? Or has Ed already dug his own grave? Episode 384: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2026: The Others (2001)

  Sep 20, 20262h 11m

Are you seated comfortably children? Good. Then let us begin the pod. On this week's dimly lit episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake Spooktoberfest event we are walking the many haunted halls of Alejandro Amenabar's The Others (2001). Patron saint of the podcast, Nicole Kidman, is here to instruct in the strict, yet caring way that we all enjoy so much. A giant house, a few rambunctious creepy children, and a vague newly hired staff are all potential scare factors in this movie. At least Jonathan gets some nuanced candle light and to carry a giant Victorian keyring about. But where are the curtains?!? Don't you know Daniel is sensitive to the light?!? Don't be a "cowardly custard" gather your courage and help us find out just who is in our house! Episode 383: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2026: Puppet Master (1989)

  Sep 13, 20262h 6m

Spooktoberfest 2026 continues with a direct-to-video vacation to sunny California. 1989’s Puppet Master is a story about love, loss, betrayal, a small number of puppets, and lots and lots of leeches. A group of psychics are lured to the Bodega Bay Inn to attend the funeral of shady telepath Neil Gallagher. Neil had abandoned his friends years earlier while trying to uncover the secrets of reanimation. Left holding the bag after Neil’s disappearance, the other psychics decide to search the abandoned hotel for whatever treasure he found. (If you’re wondering how puppets are involved, we’re getting to that.) The psychics, alongside Neil’s widow Megan, find themselves plagued by terrifying visions, bizarre nightmares, and a troupe of (you guessed it) murderous living puppets. As it turns out, the Bodega Bay Inn was formerly home to an old puppeteer-turned-alchemist named André Toulon. His puppets have been reawakened and are now taking orders from a mysterious new master. Can our heroes solve the very obvious mystery that Neil Gallagher left behind? Or will they fall victim to the tiny blades, drills, fists, and leeches of Toulon’s puppets? Get ready for some handcrafted horror with no strings attached on today’s badly furnished episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!
