Mario Mims, known professionally as Yo Gotti, is an American rapper, record executive, and record producer born on May 19, 1981. His musical roots lie in Memphis rap, and he initially gained recognition through the release of five independent albums between 1996 and 2006. These early works include Youngsta's on a Come Up, From da Dope Game 2 da Rap Game, Self-Explanatory, Life, and Back 2 da Basics. In 2009, Gotti signed with J Records, and that year he released singles '5 Star' and 'Women Lie, Men Lie' featuring Lil Wayne, both of which received gold certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America and entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart. These songs were not included on his major label debut album, Live from the Kitchen, which was released in 2012 and reached number 12 on the Billboard 200. He subsequently transferred to Epic Records for the release of his albums I Am in 2013 and The Art of Hustle in 2016; both albums achieved top ten positions on the Billboard 200. His singles such as 'Act Right,' 'I Know,' 'Down in the DM,' and 'Law' attained platinum status. Gotti's 2017 single 'Rake It Up,' featuring Nicki Minaj and produced by Mike Will Made-It, peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100, marking his highest chart position. His albums Untrapped (2020) and CM10: Free Game (2022) reached number ten and three respectively on the Billboard 200. In 2012, he founded the record label Collective Music Group, which has signed several successful artists.
