Warren Griffin III, born on November 10, 1970, is an American rapper, record producer, and DJ. He played a significant role in popularizing West Coast hip hop during the 1990s and is recognized as a pioneer of the G-funk subgenre. Griffin achieved mainstream success with his 1994 single 'Regulate,' featuring Nate Dogg, which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut album, Regulate... G Funk Era, released in 1994, debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and was later certified triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, indicating sales of three million copies. The song 'Regulate' remained in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 for 18 weeks, with three weeks at number two, and was followed by the hit 'This D.J.,' which peaked at number nine. Both singles received Grammy nominations for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Solo Performance. His second album, Take a Look Over Your Shoulder, released in 1997, produced three Top 40 singles, and the subsequent album I Want It All in 1999 also received Gold certification. Griffin's later albums include The Return of the Regulator, released in 2001, which was less successful commercially, and collaborative projects such as the hip-hop trio 213, formed alongside Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg. He is credited with discovering Snoop Dogg and introducing him to Dr. Dre. In 2015, Griffin released Regulate... G Funk Era, Part II, comprising archived recordings of Nate Dogg.
