Vladimir Kara-Murza: podcast appearances and interviews

Vladimir Vladimirovich Kara-Murza is a Russian-British political activist, journalist, author, filmmaker, and former political prisoner. He is a protégé of the murdered Russian dissident Boris Nemtsov and serves as vice-chairman of Open Russia, a non-governmental organization founded by Mikhail Khodorkovsky that promotes civil society and democracy in Russia. Kara-Murza was elected to the Coordinating Council of the Russian Opposition in 2012 and served as deputy leader of the People's Freedom Party from 2015 to 2016. He has directed two documentaries, They Chose Freedom and Nemtsov, and is a Senior Fellow at the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights. In 2018, he was awarded the Civil Courage Prize for his activism. Following his opposition to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in April 2022, Kara-Murza was arrested on charges of disobeying police orders. His arrest was extended to include charges of discrediting the military and treason, with allegations that many organizations considered politically motivated due to his anti-war stance. Despite these charges, he was awarded the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize in October 2022. In April 2023, Kara-Murza was sentenced to 25 years in a Siberian prison colony. During his imprisonment, he continued to write columns for The Washington Post, for which he received the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 2024. On August 1, 2024, he was released from prison as part of a multinational prisoner exchange.
