Vivian Howard: podcast appearances and interviews

Vivian Howard is an American chef, restaurateur, author, and television host known for her focus on the ingredients and cooking traditions of eastern North Carolina. She hosted the PBS series A Chef's Life from 2013 to 2018, which highlighted regional cuisine and was filmed at the Chef & the Farmer restaurant in Kinston, North Carolina, a business she co-owned with her then-husband and business partner, Ben Knight. In 2014, Howard became the first woman since Julia Child to win a Peabody Award for a cooking program. She has authored several cookbooks and memoirs, including Deep Run Roots in 2017 and This Will Make It Taste Good in 2020. In 2023, Howard contributed an opinion piece to the New York Times addressing the foundational problems within the current restaurant business model, many of which contributed to the temporary closure of The Chef and the Farmer following the COVID-19 pandemic. She subsequently reopened the restaurant with a re-envisioned format that features story-telling and a tasting menu seating.
