Irving Rameses Rhames, known as Ving Rhames, is an American actor born in Harlem, New York City. He studied drama at SUNY Purchase before transferring to the Juilliard School, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1983. Rhames began his acting career with early stage work in Shakespeare and contemporary plays before making his screen debut in 1985. He gained wider recognition with roles in films such as Jacob's Ladder (1990), The People Under the Stairs (1991), and as Marsellus Wallace in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994). Rhames is particularly known for his role as Luther Stickell in all eight installments of the Mission: Impossible film series. His filmography also includes Con Air (1997), Rosewood (1997), Out of Sight (1998), Dawn of the Dead (2004), and he provided the voice of Cobra Bubbles in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch (2002). In 1998, Rhames received a Golden Globe Award for portraying boxing promoter Don King in the film Don King: Only in America, where he notably awarded the prize to Jack Lemmon. Beyond film and television, Rhames has an extensive background in theater, voice acting, and commercial narration, reflecting a diverse range of acting disciplines.
