Vince Gill: podcast appearances and interviews
About Vince Gill
Vincent Grant Gill, born on April 12, 1957, is an American singer, songwriter, and musician known for his contributions to country music and his proficiency as a guitarist. Gill began his musical career playing in local bluegrass bands in the 1970s and gained his first mainstream recognition as the lead singer of the soft rock band Pure Prairie League from 1978 to 1982. During this period, he sang lead on their hit single "Let Me Love You Tonight" and contributed to songwriting. Following his tenure with Pure Prairie League, Gill briefly played guitar in Rodney Crowell's backing band, the Cherry Bombs. His solo career in country music commenced in 1984 when he signed with RCA Records Nashville, which lasted until 1988, though with limited commercial success. A subsequent signing with MCA Nashville in 1989 marked a significant turning point. Gill's commercial peak occurred in the early 1990s with his breakthrough album "When I Call Your Name". He has charted 65 entries on the Billboard country music charts and achieved four solo number-one hits between 1992 and 1994. His collaborations include guest appearances on songs by Reba McEntire, Chris Young, and a multi-artist collaboration titled "Forever Country". All his albums from the 1990s received at least platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, with "I Still Believe in You" reaching quintuple platinum. Gill has earned 22 Grammy Awards, the most among solo male country artists. Beyond his solo work, he was a member of the Western swing group the Time Jumpers from 2010 to 2020 and joined the Eagles in 2017 following Glenn Frey's passing. His collaborations span numerous artists, and he is recognized for his songwriting, tenor voice, and lead guitar skills, with proficiency on instruments such as guitar, mandolin, banjo, and Dobro.
