Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson is an American conservative political commentator and journalist. Since 2023, he has hosted The Tucker Carlson Show, after previously hosting Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News from 2016 to 2023. During his tenure, the show was the highest rated cable news program until its cancellation. Carlson began his media career in the 1990s writing for The Weekly Standard and other publications. He was a CNN commentator from 2000 to 2005 and co-hosted Crossfire, a prime-time debate program on CNN, from 2001 to 2005. Following this, he hosted a nightly program on MSNBC from 2005 to 2008. In 2009, Carlson became a political analyst for Fox News, appearing on multiple programs before launching his own show. He co-founded The Daily Caller in 2010, serving as its initial editor-in-chief until he sold his stake and left in 2020. Carlson was among the Fox News hosts named in the 2021 Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit for broadcasting false claims about voting machines. Known for shifting political views, he initially supported the Iraq War but changed his stance in 2004. Originally an economic libertarian, he now advocates for protectionism and immigration restrictions. Carlson is recognized for popularizing far-right ideas within mainstream discourse and has been associated with falsehoods and conspiracy theories on topics including demographics, COVID-19, the Capitol attack, and Ukrainian bioweapons. His comments on race, immigration, and gender have been criticized as racist and sexist, prompting advertiser boycotts. A supporter of Donald Trump, Carlson has influenced his decisions but has also expressed criticism of Trump. In 2024, he became the first Western journalist to interview Vladimir Putin since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. He has authored three books.
