Tressie McMillan Cottom: podcast appearances and interviews

Tressie McMillan Cottom is an American writer, sociologist, and professor. She holds the position of associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Information and Library Science and is an affiliate of the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life at UNC-Chapel Hill. Previously, she was an associate professor of sociology at Virginia Commonwealth University and was affiliated with the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. McMillan Cottom is the author of several works including the book Lower Ed: The Troubling Rise of For-Profit Colleges in the New Economy and Thick: And Other Essays. She also co-edited the volume For-Profit Universities and Digital Sociologies and has contributed essays to publications such as The Atlantic, Slate, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. In addition to her writing and academic work, she is a co-host of the podcast Hear to Slay with author Roxane Gay. McMillan Cottom is frequently recognized as an expert on inequality and American higher education by various media outlets. Her contributions to discussions on race, gender, education, and digital technology earned her a MacArthur Fellowship in 2020.
