Travis King: podcast appearances and interviews

Travis Travale King, born in 1999 or 2000, is a former United States Army soldier. He is known for crossing the Military Demarcation Line into North Korea on July 18, 2023, while participating in a civilian tour of the Korean Demilitarized Zone. At the time of his crossing, he was 23 years old and stationed in South Korea. King was facing a dishonorable discharge and additional disciplinary measures from the U.S. Army due to legal charges in South Korea and various allegations of misconduct, including insubordination, assault, attempted escape from military custody, and possession of child pornography. North Korean authorities reported that King, who is Black, fled after becoming disillusioned with perceived inequality and racial discrimination within American society and its military. After his detention by North Korea, he was held from July 18, 2023, until his release on September 27, 2023, when he was handed back to U.S. authorities. His detention marked the first known instance of a U.S. national being held by North Korea since 2018.
