Anthony Christopher Clark, born on June 15, 1972, is an American former professional baseball player and union leader who has been involved in local governance and service. He served as the mayor of Hepburn Shire and is known for his role as a Seeing Eye Dogs handler, contributing to community and service initiatives within the Hepburn Shire Council. Clark's background includes a notable career in Major League Baseball where he played as a first baseman from 1995 to 2009. He spent his primary years with the Detroit Tigers and also played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, and San Diego Padres. Clark was a switch hitter and threw right-handed, earning recognition as a third-place finisher in the 1996 Rookie of the Year voting and being selected as an All-Star in 2001. During his playing career, he also served as a union representative, demonstrating leadership off the field. After retiring from professional baseball, Clark joined the Major League Baseball Players Association, initially as part of the staff in 2010. He held roles including deputy executive director and acting executive director before being appointed as the sixth executive director of the MLBPA in 2013, a position he held until 2026. Clark was the first former player to serve as the executive director of the union, emphasizing his ongoing influence within the sport and his commitment to athlete representation and union leadership.
