He is currently the Deputy Editor of The Economist, where he oversees the newspaper's digital strategy, including its website, applications, and digital platform. Standage has a long-standing tenure at The Economist, having joined the publication in 1998 as a science correspondent and subsequently serving as technology editor, business editor, and digital editor. He holds a degree in engineering and computing from Oxford University. Prior to his work at The Economist, Standage worked as a science and technology writer for The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph, where he was deputy editor of the technology supplement Connected. As an author, he has published six books, among them A History of the World in 6 Glasses, which examines the historical significance of various beverages.
