Tobe Hooper: podcast appearances and interviews

Willard Tobe Hooper was an American filmmaker born in Austin, Texas, best known for his work in the horror genre. His feature film debut was the independent film Eggshells in 1969, which he co-wrote with Kim Henkel. The two collaborated again to co-write The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in 1974, a film which Hooper also directed. Considered a classic of the genre, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has been described as one of the most influential films ever made. Hooper's subsequent works include the horror film Eaten Alive in 1976 and the 1979 miniseries Salem's Lot, an adaptation of Stephen King's novel. He directed The Funhouse in 1981, a major studio slasher film distributed by Universal Pictures, and in 1982 he directed the supernatural horror Poltergeist, produced by Steven Spielberg. During the mid-1980s, Hooper directed science fiction horror films Lifeforce in 1985 and Invaders from Mars in 1986, as well as the sequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Throughout the 1990s, he worked on various horror and sci-fi projects, including Spontaneous Combustion which he co-wrote, the television anthology Body Bags, and The Mangler, another Stephen King adaptation. Hooper continued directing into the 2000s, with projects such as the monster film Crocodile, episodes of the miniseries Taken, and episodes of Masters of Horror.
