Tim McCarthy is the general manager and chief executive officer of Sioux Valley Energy and is affiliated with the Broadcasters Foundation of America. He is a retired police officer and former special agent of the United States Secret Service. McCarthy is renowned for his role in protecting President Ronald Reagan during an assassination attempt on March 30, 1981, in Washington D.C. During the incident, he positioned himself to shield Reagan as the assassin, John Hinckley Jr., fired six bullets. McCarthy was struck in the chest by one of the bullets but subsequently made a full recovery. His actions during the attack earned him recognition as a hero, and he was awarded the NCAA Award of Valor in 1982. His service exemplifies dedication to duty and acts of valor in moments of crisis.
