Thomas Dolby, born Thomas Morgan Robertson on October 14, 1958, is an English musician, record producer, composer, entrepreneur, and teacher. He gained prominence in the 1980s with the release of several international hit singles, including 'She Blinded Me with Science' in 1982 and 'Hyperactive!' in 1984. Throughout his career, Dolby has also worked as a producer and session musician, contributing to various musical projects internationally. In the 1990s, he founded Beatnik, a Silicon Valley software company whose technology was utilized for internet audio playback and ringtones, most notably on Nokia phones. Dolby served as the music director for TED Conferences and later transitioned into academia. Since 2014, he has been a faculty member at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, where he leads the Music for New Media program. The program enrolled its first students in the fall of 2018, reflecting Dolby's ongoing engagement with music education and innovative media. His career encompasses notable achievements in both music and technology, blending creative and entrepreneurial pursuits.
