Steven Charles Pope was born on 15 November 1972 in East London, Cape Province, South Africa. He is a former cricketer who played as a right-handed batsman, a leg break bowler, and occasionally served as a wicketkeeper. During a professional career that spanned 14 seasons, Pope represented multiple teams including Eastern Cape, Border, Border B, Warriors, Huntingdonshire, Cornwall, Eastern Province, and Eastern Province B. His career included both domestic South African teams and in English county cricket, where he played for Cornwall and Huntingdonshire. Throughout his first-class career, he appeared in 93 matches, scoring 5,958 runs with an average of 32.91. He achieved 27 half centuries and 12 centuries, with a highest score of 156 not out. With the ball, he claimed 48 wickets at an average of 31.27, including two five-wicket hauls and best figures of 7 for 62.
