Stephen Gary Wozniak is an American technology entrepreneur, electrical engineer, computer programmer, and inventor. He co-founded Apple Computer in 1976 with his early business partner Steve Jobs and played a key role in the development of personal computers. Wozniak was the primary designer of the Apple I, which launched the company, and the Apple II, which became one of the first highly successful mass-produced microcomputers. His work at Apple in the 1970s and 1980s contributed significantly to the personal computer revolution. Alongside human–computer interface expert Jef Raskin, Wozniak influenced the initial development of the Macintosh project from 1979 to 1981, before Jobs took over. After leaving Apple in 1985, he founded CL 9, creating the first programmable universal remote, and engaged in various business and philanthropic endeavors. Wozniak has focused on initiatives related to technology in education, including efforts to place computers in schools and in the former Soviet Union. His contributions to the tech industry and philanthropy have earned him numerous awards, including induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2000. Though he stepped down from active employment at Apple in 1985, he has remained associated with the company in a ceremonial capacity.
