Steven Charles Witkoff was born on March 15, 1957. He is an American real estate investor and former attorney who founded the Witkoff Group. Witkoff began his career as a real estate attorney before shifting to property development in New York and Miami. He acquired notable buildings in Manhattan, including the Daily News Building and the Woolworth Building. Witkoff earned a BA in political science and a JD from Hofstra University. During the first Trump administration, he participated in the Great American Economic Revival Industry Groups to address the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the second Trump administration, Witkoff became a prominent negotiator in the Russia-Ukraine War, where he faced criticism over perceived pro-Russian positions and was accused of advising the Russian government on negotiations. He was also active in negotiations in the Middle East, maintaining extensive business ties with Middle Eastern governments, including through World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency firm founded by his sons and Trump family members. As of April 2026, his net worth was estimated at 2.3 billion dollars by Forbes, having increased by 15 percent during his tenure, largely due to investments in World Liberty Financial. Since 2025, Witkoff has served as the United States special envoy to the Middle East and for peace missions. He has also acted as a de facto envoy to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
