About Steve Blank
Steve Blank, born in 1953, is an American entrepreneur, educator, author, and speaker. He is known for creating the customer development method that launched the lean startup movement. His work has significantly influenced modern entrepreneurship through the development of tools and processes for new ventures, which differ from traditional approaches used by large companies. Blank has extensive experience in the technology startup sector, having worked at eight different startups between 1978 and 2002, and he has founded or co-founded four of them. He created the Lean Launchpad class and the I-Corps curriculum, which have become standard programs for science commercialization supported by agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Department of Energy. As of 2023, his methodologies have been employed by more than 3,051 teams and 1,300 startups. Additionally, Blank is a co-creator of the U.S. Department of Defense's Hacking for Defense program and has served on the Defense Business Board and the U.S. Navy's Science and Technological Board. He is also a co-creator of the Gordian Knot Center for National Security Innovation at Stanford University. Currently, he is an adjunct professor at Stanford University, where he continues to contribute to education and innovation in national security and entrepreneurship.
