About Sophie Power
Sophie Power, born in 1982, is a British ultrarunner known for her achievements in endurance running and her advocacy for women in sport. She set a personal best of 235.739 kilometers in a 24-hour race in Crawley in 2023 and represented Great Britain at the IAU 24 Hour World Championship in Taipei the same year, running 227 kilometers. In 2018, a photograph of Power breastfeeding her three-month-old baby during the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc went viral. This incident highlighted issues around pregnancy and motherhood in endurance sports and prompted her to establish She RACES, a not-for-profit organization aimed at making races more inclusive for women. Her advocacy efforts have led to the development of guidelines for race organizers to support female athletes better and have influenced major events such as the London Marathon to allow pregnancy deferrals. Power has also produced a documentary with Hoka focusing on postpartum running. In 2024, she achieved a Guinness World Record by running the length of Ireland, covering 347 miles in three days, twelve hours, and eight minutes. Additionally, she is a Trustee of Women in Sport and writes for magazines including Runner’s World. Her organization has conducted research into women’s experiences at triathlon events and, in August 2025, launched a series of women-only races. Power's work combines her athletic accomplishments with efforts to improve the participation and recognition of women in endurance sports.
