Sophie Ellis-Bextor: podcast appearances and interviews

Sophie Michelle Ellis-Bextor, born on 10 April 1979, is an English singer and songwriter known for her work in mainstream pop and dance music with influences of disco, nu-disco, and 1980s electronic music. She initially gained prominence as the lead vocalist of the indie rock band theaudience in the late 1990s. After the band disbanded, Ellis-Bextor launched a solo career that achieved success in the early 2000s. Her collaboration with Italian DJ Spiller on the track Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) in 2000 reached number one in the UK and was later recognized as the UK's biggest-selling vinyl single of the millennium as of 2015. Her debut album, Read My Lips, released in 2001, peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart and sold approximately 1.5 million copies worldwide; it included three UK top three singles. Her subsequent albums include Shoot from the Hip in 2003, which featured two top ten singles, Trip the Light Fantastic in 2007, and Make a Scene in 2011. She also released a trilogy of albums produced by Ed Harcourt on the Cooking Vinyl label, consisting of Wanderlust (2014), Familia (2016), and Hana (2023). Ellis-Bextor experienced a resurgence in popularity when her hit song Murder on the Dancefloor was featured in the 2023 film Saltburn, leading it to re-enter the UK charts at number two. Her eighth studio album Perimenopop was released in September 2025 under Decca Records to critical praise.
