Sissy Spacek, born on December 25, 1949, is an American actress and singer with a career spanning over five decades. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and nominations, including an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and nominations for four British Academy Film Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Grammy Award. In recognition of her contributions to the film industry, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011. After studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, Spacek made her feature film debut in 1972 with Prime Cut. Her early work included a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer following her performance in Badlands in 1973. Her breakout role was in the 1976 film Carrie, where she played an abused teen with telekinetic powers, earning her her first Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She further distinguished herself with performances in Robert Altman's 3 Women and the biographical musical Coal Miner's Daughter, portraying Loretta Lynn; her portrayal earned her an Academy Award and a Golden Globe.
