Sheila Cecilia Escovedo, known by her stage name Sheila E., is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actress born on December 12, 1957. Recognized as one of the greatest percussionists of her generation, she is a multi-instrumentalist noted for her proficiency in drums and percussion. She has been dubbed the Queen of Percussion and is known for her diverse musical style, which encompasses R&B, funk, jazz, pop, synth-pop, Latin pop, and salsa.

Sheila E. was born and raised in Oakland, California, and began her music career as a percussionist with the George Duke Band from 1976 to 1980. Her debut album, The Glamorous Life, was released in 1984 on Warner Bros. Records and achieved international success with singles such as The Glamorous Life and The Belle of St. Mark. The album also received four Grammy Award nominations, including one for Best New Artist. Her subsequent albums include Romance 1600, Sheila E., and Sex Cymbal, with the hit song A Love Bizarre emerging from the second.

Her career has been recognized with several honors, including a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021 and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in July 2023. As of April 2024, she has released her tenth album titled Bailar, which features the Grammy-winning single Bemba Colorá for Best Global Music Performance.
