About Sheila Bair
Sheila Colleen Bair, born on April 3, 1954, is an American former government official known for her role as the 19th Chair of the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. She served from 2006 to 2011, having been appointed by President George W. Bush for a five-year term. During her tenure, Bair was among the first to warn about the systemic risks linked to the increasing use of subprime mortgage-backed bonds. She played a significant role in the government's response to the 2008 financial crisis. Following her time at the FDIC, Bair served as the 28th president of Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, from 2015 until her resignation in 2017. She made history at Washington College as its first female head in the institution’s 234-year history.
