Sharon Katharine Van Etten is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and actress born on February 26, 1981. Originally from New Jersey, she is now based in Los Angeles. Van Etten's music is characterized by an indie rock aesthetic and personal lyrical content. She performs both in the studio and live, often accompanied by her backing band, the Attachment Theory, which includes Devra Hoff on bass guitar and backing vocals, Teeny Lieberson on keyboards, guitar, and backing vocals, and Jorge Balbi on drums. Throughout her career, Van Etten has released seven studio albums, including Because I Was in Love, Epic, Tramp, Are We There, Remind Me Tomorrow, We've Been Going About This All Wrong, and the upcoming Sharon Van Etten & the Attachment Theory scheduled for 2025. In addition to her music career, Van Etten has also pursued acting. She starred as Rachel in both series of the Netflix mystery drama The OA, which aired from 2016 to 2019. Her acting credits also include appearances in the feature films Never Rarely Sometimes Always in 2020 and How It Ends in 2021.
