Sean Anderson: podcast appearances and interviews

Sean Anderson is an American conservation biologist, restoration ecologist, and professor of Environmental Science and Resource Management at California State University Channel Islands. His academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in ecology and evolution in environmental studies from the University of California Santa Barbara, a PhD in population biology from the University of California Los Angeles, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University. Anderson is actively involved in research and education, managing projects across diverse regions including California, Oceania, the Middle East, and Turkey. His laboratory, known as the PIRatE Lab, focuses on coastal monitoring, ecological restoration, and conservation efforts. Anderson's work often addresses complex environmental challenges such as wetland restoration, coral reef monitoring, and the impacts of oil spills and microplastic pollution worldwide. He co-directs the Aerial and Aquatic Robot Research team, which comprises faculty and students working on initiatives ranging from marine protected area surveillance to assessing long-term effects of oil seepages caused by natural disasters. In addition to his research activities, Anderson serves as the chair of the ESRM program at CSUCI. Outside the scientific community, he has a namesake character played by actor Josh Hutcherson in the Journey to the Center of the Earth franchise.
