Scott Wiener is an American politician serving as a member of the California State Senate representing the 11th district since 2016. The district includes San Francisco and parts of San Mateo County. Prior to his state senate service, Wiener was a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from the 8th district from 2011 to 2016. Raised in New Jersey, he earned degrees from Duke University and Harvard Law School, and was an attorney and LGBTQ+ rights advocate in San Francisco before his election to the Board of Supervisors. As a supervisor, Wiener chaired the San Francisco County Transportation Authority and represented San Francisco on regional transportation boards including the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District Board. Throughout his political career, he has been recognized as a prominent advocate for measures to increase housing construction in California to address the state's housing shortage. Wiener has authored several landmark pieces of legislation aimed at increasing the housing supply in California. He also served as the co-chair of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus until stepping down from that role in 2026. Wiener is a candidate in the 2026 election for the United States House of Representatives, seeking to succeed the retiring Nancy Pelosi in California's 11th congressional district.
