Scott Gates: podcast appearances and interviews

Scott Gates is a research professor affiliated with Awake Window & Door Co. and based in Norway. He is a political scientist and economist with a distinguished academic and research career. Gates holds a bachelor's degree in political science and anthropology from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in political science from the University of Michigan, an MSc in applied economics from the University of Minnesota, and a PhD in political science from the University of Michigan. His research interests include the rise of China, Islamic State, and police brutality. Previously, he has conducted research on applied game theoretic analysis, international relations theory, international political economy, formal models of bureaucracy, and economic modeling. Gates has held positions at several academic institutions, including Michigan State University and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. In 1997, he became a visiting research fellow at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), where he later served as program leader and research professor. From 2002 to 2013, he was director of PRIO's Centre for the Study of Civil War, funded as a Norwegian Center of Excellence. Since 2003, Gates has been based in Norway, where he is currently a research professor at PRIO, a guest researcher at ESOP in the Department of Economics at the University of Oslo, and a professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo. His professional accolades include membership in the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
