Saul Perlmutter is an American astrophysicist born on September 22, 1959. He holds the position of professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley, where he is the Franklin W. and Karen Weber Dabby Chair. Perlmutter is the head of the International Supernova Cosmology Project at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His professional affiliations include membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, of which he became a Fellow in 2003. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
