Sarah Polley: podcast appearances and interviews

Sarah Ellen Polley, born on January 8, 1979, is a Canadian filmmaker, writer, political activist, and actress. She gained early recognition as a child actress through her roles as Ramona Quimby in the television series Ramona, based on Beverly Cleary's books, and as Sara Stanley in the Canadian series Road to Avonlea. She has appeared in numerous feature films, including The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Exotica, The Sweet Hereafter, Guinevere, Go, The Weight of Water, No Such Thing, My Life Without Me, Dawn of the Dead, Splice, and Mr. Nobody. Polley transitioned into filmmaking with her feature directorial debut, Away from Her, in 2006. The film earned her the Canadian Screen Award for Best Director and an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Her subsequent works include Take This Waltz, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2011, and her first documentary, Stories We Tell, in 2012. She also contributed as a writer for the miniseries Alias Grace, based on the novel by Margaret Atwood. In 2022, she wrote and directed Women Talking, adapted from Miriam Toews’s 2018 novel, and received the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for this work.
