Sarah Hurwitz is an American author and speechwriter who served as a White House speechwriter during the Obama administration. She held the position of senior speechwriter for President Barack Obama and later served as chief speechwriter for First Lady Michelle Obama. Throughout her career, Hurwitz has worked as a speechwriter for various Democratic political figures and campaigns, including Tom Harkin, Wesley Clark, John Kerry, and Hillary Clinton. During Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, she was the chief speechwriter. Hurwitz contributed to several of Michelle Obama's major addresses, including speeches delivered at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Democratic National Conventions, and supported initiatives such as Let's Move! and Joining Forces. After her tenure in the White House, she became a fellow at the Harvard Institute of Politics and authored books focusing on Judaism, Jewish identity, and antisemitism.
